A method and apparatus for measuring straightness errors of elongated-shape elements, such as metal bars, during production. The apparatus uses a static supporting system with multiple bearing elements to maintain the bar in a stable position, while a first detecting system captures the bar's 3D geometry and a second detecting system measures the forces acting on the bar. The apparatus calculates the bar's theoretical shape in the absence of gravitational forces and supporting constraints, and determines the straightness error as a deviation from this theoretical shape.
